ARTIST BIO

Mario Soria

Mario Soria (b. 1966, Spain) has been painting since he was a little boy, studying the works and techniques of masters such as Velazquez, Da Vinci, and Bosch. Soria’s technique and art themes have been a constant evolution. His style is a mix of American pop art and European traditional (from Gothic to Baroque), which he likes to call “Surrealism interstellar pop”. Mario leans towards themes of surrealism as it allows him to modify reality the way he wants without restriction. The process and journey he goes through while painting is a major part of his work as well.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My paintings are influenced in global and cultural icons, past experiences and any objects in my surroundings that I take to the future. Most of the characters in my work are anonymous. They are also part of a new human race that has developed new physical skills in my fantastic world. The main character is posing barely without any action but in the background there are figures/objects and secondary characters that carry the action. The frames and lateral canvas are sculptures around the paintings, they are an unbreakable whole, and they belong to each other. They wrap the painting and the painting brightens them. My work and ideas are always in constant evolution they have been changing slightly and automatically through all these years.
